Ever since I finished the initial
restoration of the 67, I always wondered just how fast it would be on the
dragstrip. When I was younger I used to live at the race tracks, specifically
Atco Raceway
in Atco, New Jersey; Raceway Park
in Englishtown, New Jersey and Maple Grove, Pennsylvania. I
raced many different types and models of cars but hey, I never raced the 67
before I put it away in the garage for a 23 year nap.
Well, the opportunity
finally presented itself in May of 2002. The Lakes Corvette Club co-sponsors a
day at the track for racing, show, or both. I used this as a perfect time to
shake off the dust and get a few base times to start working with. After
multiple disappointing times at Atco, I did a lot of fine tuning and adjusting
before I tried again at Raceway Park in July of 2003 and it definitely showed in
the better times that were produced.
One of the additions that I implemented
was the installation of a Pertronix electronic ignition module in the
distributor. What a BIG difference it made, allowing me to rev well into the
5’s without a problem. Well, enough said, here are the time slips compiled into
